Signs You May Have Obtained a Brain Injury

It is commonly believed that any kind of brain injury is readily noticeable. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. In fact, symptoms of brain injury may occur immediately, but at other times, the symptoms may not show up until months, or even years down the road. If you have had any kind of head or neck injury and start exhibiting the following signs, it is important to have yourself checked for a possible hidden brain injury.

Brain Injury Symptoms

  • Recurrent or constant head or neck pain
  • Cognitive difficulties such as problems with memory, making decisions or concentrating
  • Slow processing of speech or reading
  • Becoming easily confused or getting lost regularly
  • Loss of all energy or motivation
  • Extreme, sudden mood changes – especially to anger or depression
  • Dizziness, lightheaded or unable to keep your balance
  • Increased sensitivity of the senses such as to light, sound or smell
  • Loss of smell, taste or vision

What to Do

These symptoms can be caused by other medical conditions but it is essential to find out exactly what is causing them. Set up an appointment with your doctor to have a brain scan. Take note of when the symptoms first occurred and when you may have suffered a hit to the head or a neck injury, such as whiplash.

If an injury to your brain is found to be the cause of your symptoms, and you believe the cause was a past auto accident or other accident that was caused by someone’s negligence, contact a lawyer to see if you have any recourse available. Even if time has passed, it may be possible to get legal compensation for the injuries you were subject to.
